Mayor, Town officials, Street department, JPSO, GIPD, GIVES, GIFD, DOTD, National Guard, and US Army met this morning to discuss progress. As of today, we are still in the sand removal phase. Currently La 1 towards the East End of the island is closed to being cleared. La 1 is cleared in the middle of the island and we are making progress clearing side streets. The West end of the island experienced significant levee breaches and high sand levels, which has made the sand removal process more extensive in that area. DOTD, National Guard, and US Army have been working to clear the highway. Meanwhile, the Grand Isle street department is working to clear the side streets for residents and property owners to access their areas safely.

The anticipated completion time to have the roads cleared is by the end of the week. We are expecting more equipment to arrive and progress to continue if the weather does not cause delays. As soon as we have a definite date of completion or if we can complete the project sooner than the end of this week, we will post an update. Please be patient with this sand removal phase.

We are currently still waiting on an update on postal services and will update you as soon as we have a location.

If anyone would like to cook for the community on the island, please sign up here: https://volunteersignup.org/HF93E and we will reach out to you to add you to our schedule.

We will update you again tomorrow at noon with progress. We are working as hard as we can to get our infrastructure restored and get our community members back to the island safely. We are in this together. #GrandIsleStrong
